ENVI

ENVI software solution is now one of most user-friendly and available software products for data visualization and processing, which includes a suite of tools for the entire data processing cycle from imagery orthorectification and georeferencing to acquisition of the required information and its integration with GIS data.

Key Features:

  • The distinctive features are open architecture and IDL (Interactive Data Language) programming language used to considerably expand ENVI's capacities to solve special tasks: automate the existing algorithms, create its own data processing algorithms and perform batch processing.
  • User-friendly graphic interface which allows the beginning user to quickly master all required data processing algorithms. Logical pop-down menu selections make it easier to find a function which is required for data analysis or processing. It is also possible to simplify, reconfigure, russify or rename ENVI’s menu selections or add new functions.
  • ENVI is recognized worldwide as a leader in the analysis of multispectral and hyperspectral imagery: includes spectral libraries and continuously updated algorithms and tools for the spectral analysis.
  • ENVI supports a wide range of raster and vector formats such as ESRI SHP, MapInfo TAB, MapInfo MID/MIF and many others. It is possible to create and edit raster and vector layers, view and edit attributive tables.

ENVI Graphic Interface

ENVI software package meets all basic requirements for imagery processing:

  • visualization and processing of Earth remote sensing (ERS) data;
  • processing and in-depth spectral analysis of multispectral and hyperspectral imagery;
  • imagery georeferencing;
  • orthorectification;
  • DEM generation based on stereoscopic imagery;
  • 3D visualization;
  • topographic analysis;
  • processing and analysis of radar and LIDAR data;
  • interactive interpretation and classification;
  • vegetation analysis using vegetation indices (NDVI);
  • geometric and radiometric correction;
  • interactive spectral and spatial enhancement of images;
  • calibration and atmospheric correction;
  • support of raster and vector formats;
  • support of remote sensing data acquired from WorldView-1, QuickBird, Ikonos, Cartosat, ALOS, EROS, Orbview, SPOT, IRS, TERRA (ASTER), Landsat and other satellites.

ENVI is recognized worldwide as a leader in the analysis of multispectral and hyperspectral imagery. ENVI includes spectral libraries and tools for spectral and topographic analysis, vegetation analysis and imagery classification using the following algorithms:

  • K-means, Isodata
  • Parallelepiped decision rule
  • Minimum spectral distance algorithm (Euclidean metric, Minimum distance)
  • Mahalanobis Distance
  • Maximum likelihood
  • Spectral Angle Mapper
  • Binary Encoding
  • Decision Tree
  • Neural Network

For example, the Decision Tree algorithm is used for joint analysis of various data (digital elevation model (DEM) – altitude, slope angle and direction; hydrogeological peculiarities – groundwater depth, the nature of soils; specific features of the vegetation cover) in order to identify areas subject to erosion processes and fire hazardous areas. One of ENVI’s advantages are easy-to-use algorithms for automatic vectorization of classified imagery, that is especially important in the online analysis of results in up-to-date GIS packages.

Supported Operating Systems:

Microsoft Windows® (2000 SP4, 32-bit XP, 32-bit Vista)
Microsoft Windows® (64-bit XP, 64-bit Vista)
Linux (32/64-bit, Intel x86)
Sun Solaris 2(10 SPARC (32/64-bit))

New Options:

  • Support of photogrammetric processing of imagery acquired from ALOS (PRISM) Japanese satellite as rational polynomial coefficients (RPC) to be delivered with 1B1 processing level product.
  • The software automatically reads the file containing RPC-coefficients and allows orthorectification both using ground control points to reach maximum accuracy of about 2 pixels afield and without the benefit of ground control points. An external DEM file, for example SRTM, a terrain model acquired from map documents or a terrain model acquired by processing the PRISM stereopair in any combination (forward-nadir, nadir-backward, forward-backward) can be used as terrain models.
  • Support of data from WorldView-1, FORMOSAT-2 satellites.
  • Introduction of a new ENVI add-on module – ENVI Feature Extraction (Fx).
