GeoEye-1

GeoEye-1 satellite imagery

GeoEye-1 is expected to be launched in the nearest months of 2008 (exact date is not specified yet; it was planed to launch in 2007 initially, later it was postponed for 2008). The satellite is owned by GeoEye (USA). GeoEye-1 will be set into polar sun-synchronous orbit at the height of 684 km which allows revisiting any area each 1-3 days depending on latitude. GeoEye-1 acquires digital satellite imagery with spatial resolution of 41 cm in panchromatic mode and 1.65 m in multispectral mode at nadir. GeoEye-1 high mobility will enable acquiring large data volume from single pass. Estimated orbit life – 7 years.

GeoEye-1 applications

  • Creation and refreshing of topographical maps and special plans up to 1:2000 scale.
  • DEM creation up to 1-2 meters height accuracy.
  • Assessing and estimating of drill site and transportation infrastructure facilities.
  • Realization of forest inventory and organization.
  • Arable land assessing, creation of land use maps and precision farming.
  • Refreshing of the topographical backdrops to other layers of mapping for the generation of metropolitan region planning layouts.
  • Inspection and monitoring transport, energy and information communications condition.
  • Broad spectrum of environment conservation projects.
