WorldView-1

WorldView-1 satellite imagery

WorldView-1 was launched on September 18, 2007 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. The owner is DigitalGlobe (USA). Ball Aerospace (platform, integration), Eastman Kodak (optical camera), ITT (integration) and BAE Systems (processing system) are involved into development process. WorldView-1 is placed in near-earth sun-synchronous orbit at the altitude of 450 km. The WorldView-1 spacecraft is capable of acquiring up to 750 000 square kilometers of imagery data daily and revisiting time a particular site of 1.7 days. WorldView-1 is fitted with 60 cm aperture telescope for panchromatic surveying with spatial resolution up to 0,5 m. Various collection sizes of surveying are available: frame mode, route survey (along coastline, roads and linear objects), areal survey (60 х 60 km), and stereoscopic areas on a single pass as well.

If compared with the preceding satellite QuickBird, WorldView-1 is equipped with up-to-date technical solutions for high surveying efficiency, quality and accuracy of image gridding. Desired satellite mission life is 7 years at least.

WorldView-1 satellite imagery applications

  • Creation and refreshing of topographical maps and special plans up to 1:2000 scale.
  • DEM creation up to 1-3 meters scale.
  • Assessing and estimating of drill site and transportation infrastructure facilities.
  • Forest regulation implementation and its health monitoring over time.
  • Arable land assessing, creation of land use maps and precision farming.
  • Topographical background refreshing for the generation of the perspective urban developing layouts and metropolitan region planning diagrams.
  • Inspection and monitoring transport, energy and information communications condition.
