THEOS satellite imagery

THEOS (Thailand Earth Observation System) engineered by EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co) for GISTDA (Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency) is slated for launch in 2008 aboard Dnepr carrier booster from Dombarovskiy area (Yasniy township in the Orenburg Region).

The satellite will be set into sun-synchronous orbit at 822km height, at which will be able to revisit a particular site every 26 days with 98.7˚ declination. It will be fitted with panchromatic telescope acquiring digital imagery with spatial resolution of 2 m for the survey of 22 km width, as well as 4-band multispectral camera providing with imagery of 15 m spatial resolution and 90 km swath width. Vertical turn of the apparatus acquires swath width oа 1000 km. Maximum roll deviation is 45˚ off-nadir. Estimated lifetime is 5-7 years.

THEOS satellite imagery application

  • Creation and refreshing of topographical maps and special plans up to 1:2500 scale.
  • Assessing and estimating of drill site and transportation infrastructure facilities.
  • Ecological survey of the petroleum and other minerals sites, refining and transportation places.
  • Refreshing of the topographical backdrops to other layers of mapping for the generation of metropolitan and constituent entities of the Federation region planning layouts.
  • Forest regulation implementation and its health monitoring over time. Regular forest use control and forest condidtion monitoring.
  • Arable land assessing, monitoring and assessment of the crop state and contamination, determination of the crop fragile, crop yields forecasting.
  • Monitoring and forcasting of the crop state and contamination, determination of the crop fragile, crop yields forecasting.
