Information-and-Analytical Package

The structure of the Information-and-Analytical Package (IAP) depends on the purpose and tasks the Situational Centre is created for. In the base version offered by Sovzond, IAP  includes databases (DB) "Satellite Images"  and "Cartographical Support", information-and-analytical systems (IAS) "Space Monitoring", "Search for Spatial Data", "GEOSERVER".

DB "Satellite Images"

Spatial data serves as a source base of the common geoinformation space of the system. Sovzond offers a unique module for filling the Situational Centre with information-and-analytical data - DB "Satellite Images". This module presents systematized and constantly updated information on images acquired from existing and new commercial spacecraft with high and ultrahigh spatial resolution. Structure, succeeding scales, functional purpose and completeness of spatial data are determined by the task assigned. For more details about the data provided by spacecrafts, see section "Satellite Images".

DB "Cartographical Support"

At present, cartographical support of various systems is one of priority tasks for both state-owned enterprises and non-state companies working in the area of geoinformation technologies. This is explained by various reasons: development of global positioning systems, municipal GIS, telecommunication systems of the third and fourth generations, etc.

Digital maps of scale 1:10 000 and 1:25 000, digital topographical plans of scale 1:2 000 are most widely used nowadays. This data has a great affect on prompt decision-making in legislative, technical, social activities, and economic activities, operation of real estate objects, road, bridge and building construction, solving tasks related to navigation, geodynamics, and other tasks involving the use of spatial information.

Sovzond offers DB "Cartographical Support" consisting of a vector map covering the territory in question and attributive information on the objects. How detailed and actually the information is displayed depends on a particular task.

Geoinformation technologies based on DB "Cartographical Support" facilitate decision-making at various levels of activities.

IAS "Space Monitoring"

One of the promising elements of the Information-and-analytical package of the Situational Centre is IAS "Space Monitoring".

The primary objective of this system is analysis of online ERS data acquired from space for the purpose of presenting full, actual and exact information on natural-resources potential, economic and ecological condition of the region in question for acceptance of managerial decisions.

This system development is based on the combination of integrated information technologies adapted for application as part of the information-and-analytical system, intended for solving problems connected with dynamic generation of spatial data sets, construction of interactive thematic maps and cartograms based on topological relations of spatial and semantic information, processing of data acquired by ecological satellite monitoring.  Data processing results are integrated into thematic GIS to carry out comprehensive analysis and acquire information about positive and negative processes behaviour.

The primary goals of IAS "Space Monitoring" are:

  • Rapid acquisition of ERS data required for the most extensive monitoring of various types of natural resources, environmental problems, emergency situations;
  • Preprocessing of ERS data, preparation of these data for automated and interactive decoding and visual representation on hardware used in the Situational centre;
  • Comprehensive automated analysis of ERS data to prepare a wide spectrum of analytical cartographical materials on various subjects, evaluate various statistical parameters;
  • Preparation of analytical reports, presentation materials based on data acquired by space survey of terrain, generation of offers and recommendations for solution of various problems, attracting investments, redistribution of forces and facilities between different spheres.

Today IAS "Space Monitoring" can nominally be divided into two ERS data acquisition approaches:

  • Data are acquired from the distributor;
  • Data are received by company's own data receiving station directly from a spacecraft (SC).

Depending on the task, Sovzond specialists offer the following modules of IAS "Space Monitoring":

Module "Harvest"

This module closes the key monitoring and prognostic problems solved by agricultural industry on basis of satellite images:

Inventory control and mapping of farmland, online control over the condition of various crops, assessment of germinating ability, early prediction of productivity characteristics, full monitoring of progress in harvesting of agricultural crops using optical and radar images.

Identification and prediction of adverse ecological events affecting agricultural management (wind and water erosion, salination, grazing of plants, trampling of land by cattle etc.) with a view to considering these processes in planning of agricultural management.

Acquisition of independent and exact statistical information about the volumes of plant products with a high degree of accuracy (5–10%) for specific fields and farm units.

IAS "Search for Spatial Data"

Evident increase in demand for earth remote sensing data by Russian customers has resulted in creation of IAS "Search for Spatial Data". The service is unique due to possibility of search for geodata by their spatial position while the data is filtered by preset attributive characteristics.

By using the system any user can carry out an online search for space images at the territory of interest and get access to available archive of data acquired by spacecrafts WorldView-2, WorldView-1, GeoEye-1, QuickBirdIkonos, Spot-5, TerraSAR-X, FORMOSAT-2, ALOS(PRISM, AVNIR), RapidEye, "Resurs-DK", "Monitor-E"  etc. This is a ready-made scalable solution for processing large scale arrays of spatial data.

IAS "GEOSERVER"

Over the recent years WEB services and client-server technologies are developing actively in all parts of the world including Russia. IAS "GEOSERVER" is an integrated solution intended for supply of geoinformation data including cartographical, satellite, thematic and other spatial data to consumers. Constantly growing demand for spatial data is explained by need for analytical research of trends in terrain processes that in its turn determines a set of requirements to availability of geoinformation WEB applications and to the structure of spatial data needed for solving local, regional and global problems of management, planning and development of territories. The term "availability" means supplying potential users with media having a functional set of tools for spatial data handling which is necessary and sufficient for attaining desirable results.

IAS "GEOSERVER" consists of two parts - the server part and the client part. The basis of the client-server solution is a hardware-and-software package created on the basis of advanced WEB geoinformation technologies. Its main feature is application of modern software created on the basis of freeware which completely corresponds to OGC standards and does not require licensing, thus considerably reducing expenses for development of similar projects without loss of quality of the end-product. WEB applications developed on the basis of this software are of cross-browser type that ensures their reliable work with various popular WEB observers.

The client part of IAS "GEOSERVER", a convenient intuitive interface, is intended provide the user with access to all features of WEB applications. These functions are meant for the following purposes:

  • general management of a spatial data set;
  • management of multilayered spatial data models in order to enhance efficiency of spatial analysis and visual representation of these models;
