Software Package

Software Package

Software (SW) used for effective use of a Situational Centre can be classified as follows:

  • Utility software,
  • SW for data processing and analysis,
  • GIS-applications.

Utility Software

Utility software is used to control all computer equipment and terminal devices. They provide interaction between all hardware elements of the Situational Centre.

Utility software enables maintenance of information display scenarios and operational management of these scenarios requiring a number of coordinated actions related to hardware management of the Situational Centre. It also allows effective management of practically all operating modes of audio-and-visual and other systems.

Operation of a Situational Centre is normally maintained by a standard license software or software developed by companies responsible for equipment of Situational Centers.

Software Used for Data Processing and Analysis

Various types of application software are used depending on functions performed by Situational Centre and nature of incoming information. This software includes program systems for mathematical and statistical analysis, modeling, image processing and analysis etc.

ERS data (satellite images) are basic and promising sources of spatial information for Situational Centers. Sovzond delivers software Trimble INPHO and ENVI products used for ERS data processing and analysis.

Trimble INPHO is a full-featured photogrammetric system including standard tasks of satellite image processing: geocoding, ortho transformation, stereo vectoring, creation of digital terrain- and elevation models.

ENVI  is one of the most successful and affordable software products for visual representation and processing of ERS data which includes all tools required for carrying out a full data processing cycle - beginning from ortho transformation and spatial binding of the image and ending with acquisition of necessary information, its analysis and integration into geoinformation systems.

GIS-Applications

Geoinformation system (GIS) is a modern computer technology used for gathering, storage, analysis and visual graphic representation of spatial data and related information.

Geoinformation systems combine traditional operations in work with databases - request and statistical analysis - with advantages of high-resolution visual representation and spatial analysis. The capability to operate both vector and raster data essentially expands the field of application of geoinformation systems. The above mentioned advantages present unique possibility to use GIS for solving a wide variety of tasks involving analysis of events and occurrences, forecasting of their probable consequences, planning of strategic decisions. This is just what a Situational Centre is meant for.

The tools used for construction of geoinformation systems are GIS-applications, i.e. special software products. The most prominent software product line among the big variety of GIS-applications is ArcGIS  supplied by ESRI. Sovzond is an official distributor of ESRI.

ArcGIS  is the best decision for building corporate, branch, regional, state Geoinformation systems. ArcGIS software products created on the basis of advanced computer technologies can support all open (OGC) standards enabling their use in many application areas and at different levels of work organization (desktop, server and mobile GIS).
