DigitalGlobe, of Longmont, Colorado, USA, is a private commercial vendor of space imagery and geospatial content, and operator of civilian remote sensing spacecraft. The company offers the world's highest resolution commercial satellite imagery and maintains the most current and accurate content library.
QuickBird, launched on October 18, 2001, is DigitalGlobe's primary satellite, which was built in partnership with Ball Aerospace and Orbital Sciences. DigitalGlobe plans to launch its next generation of satellites, with WorldView I scheduled for launch in 2007 and WorldView II in late 2008, to be built by Ball Aerospace. DigitalGlobe has partnered with Boeing for launch of the WorldView satellites on Delta II.
DigitalGlobe’s customers range from urban planners, to the U.S. federal agencies, including NASA and the United States Department of Defense's National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). As well, much of Google Earth and Google Maps high resolution-imagery is provided by DigitalGlobe, as is imagery used in Microsoft's TerraServer.
GeoEye is the world's largest commercial satellite imagery company. GeoEye's headquarters are in Dulles, Virginia. GeoEye operates its own fleet of imaging satellites (IKONOS, ORBVIEW), which provide visible and near-infrared images at resolutions below 1 meter. GeoEye-1 is due to launch in 2007.
RapidEye AG Company (Germany) was founded in 1998 and the business concept was initiated in 1996 by Kayser-Threde GmbH, a German space engineering company, with support from the German Space Agency (DLR). RapidEye provides geospatial products and services, as well as consulting solutions, derived from Earth observation data. The primary source of this data is the RapidEye constellation of five imaging satellites (were launched successfully on August 29th, 2008) that are capable of imaging large areas of land at high resolution on a frequent basis. Head office is situated in Brandenburg (till 2004 – in Munich).

Spot Image is a French operator of SPOT remote-sensing satellites and is a commercial vendor of space imagery. The company's main shareholders are CNES (41%) and EADS (40%). The company headquarters are located in Toulouse, France. SPOT (Satellite Pour l'Observation de la Terre) is a high-resolution, optical imaging earth observation satellite system operating from space. It has been designed to improve the knowledge and management of the earth by exploring the earth's resources, detecting and forecasting phenomena involving climatology and oceanography, and monitoring human activities and natural phenomena. The SPOT system includes a series of satellites and ground control resources for satellite control and programming, image production and distribution.
Infoterra GmbH is part of the Infoterra Group which comprises companies in France, Germany and the United Kingdom with over 450 employees. Infoterra is a wholly owned subsidiary of EADS Astrium. Launched in 2001, Infoterra GmbH holds the exclusive commercial exploitation rights for the radar satellite TerraSAR data, as soon as the satellite becomes operational in 2007. Khrunichev State Space Scientific Production Center is a Moscow-based producer of space-launch systems named after Mikhail Khrunichev - a soviet minister.
The Khrunichev plant was established during World War II to produce heavy bomber aircraft, and continued in this role during the 50s. The plant's involvement with space and missile technology began in 1960 when the plant was responsible for a series of ballistic missiles and heavy launch vehicles carrying the UR- designation UR-100 ('Sego') ICBM; UR-100N ('Stilleto') ICBM; UR-200, a heavy ICBM which never entered service; and UR-500 super-heavy ICBM, which later became the Proton rocket. Khrunichev was transferred to the Salyut Design Bureau in the late seventies, then between 1981 and 1988 was part of NPO Energia. It became an independent entity in 1988. Khrunichev is also part of the International Launch Services (ILS) joint venture with the Lockheed Martin. Khrunichev was the manufacturer of manned space stations including Mir, the Salyut series and the Almaz modules.

Operated by NTs OMZ, Resurs-DK1 is a commercial earth observation satellite able of transmitting high-resolution imagery (1 m) to the ground stations as it passes overhead. The satellite is designed for remote sensing of the Earth’s surface aimed at acquiring high-quality visible images in near real-time as well as on-line data delivery via radio link and providing a wide range of consumers with value-added processed data.
